Carbon insetting: A signpost on the road to sustainable agriculture
Agrecalc’s Head of Science, Dr Rachael Ramsey explores how carbon insetting holds immense potential, particularly in the context of reducing emissions from the agri-food sector.
At this year’s new Low Carbon Agricultural Show, at the NAEC Stoneleigh near Kenilworth, the Agrecalc team will be giving practical guidance on how farm operators can navigate the enterprise changes required, as well what climate change mitigations the supply chain might require of farmers in the future.
Dr Rachael Ramsey, Agrecalc Head of Science and Research, will be presenting at the event’s Environmental Business live seminar, on the topic of “Optimising the benefits of on-farm carbon resources”. Agrecalc is also sponsoring the session, taking place at LCA Seminar 2.
Dr Ramsey said: “During the session I plan to explore the various direct and indirect opportunities for maximising carbon resources on farm, how these may help to meet evolving needs of supply chains, and the importance of robust science, tools and methodologies for decision-making on farm carbon management.”
She will be supported by Anna Sellars, Senior Agriculture Consultant for SAC Consulting’s Food and Footprint division, as a carbon and policy expert to whom questions can be directed during the Q&A.
Agrecalc is a comprehensive tool for carbon emission calculation in agriculture. Visitors will also have a chance to get a short preview of what the v2.0 of the resource efficiency tool will look like.
Scotland-based Agrecalc was developed by SAC Consulting, the commercial arm of Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), and will have a diverse and large team on hand for the duration of the event which runs on February 7 and 8, 2023.
Julian Bell, Agrecalc Head of Commercial said: “This is a fantastic show that is addressing the agrifood sector’s growing appetite to invest in meaningful emissions mitigation. The show looks to have a very good mix of exhibitors ranging from electric vehicles to renewables and data, as well as a comprehensive range of speakers in the three seminar streams.
“The UK is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 and the agricultural sector is uniquely placed to be part of the solution. Agrecalc will be there to explore the ways our clients and partners can measure, benchmark, and lower the carbon footprint on farms and land-based businesses, as well as throughout the entire food supply chain.”
Formerly the Energy & Rural Business show, and featuring the 12th annual Energy Now Expo, the event is focused on ensuring that practical solutions to tackling climate change through the generation of renewable energy, the implementation of low carbon initiatives and best practice in both environmental and carbon management, take centre stage.

Agrecalc is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer.
Hailing from the private sector, Scott Davies brings a wealth of production and managerial leadership experience from a career in developing and growing successful technology-backed businesses.
In its drive to reach net zero, top 15 UK food company Moy Park has unveiled a pioneering five-year partnership with Agrecalc that will monitor and track greenhouse gas emissions in real time at individual farm level, across its entire farming base.
